Alastair Shorten
Director & Principal Consultant
After studying business at University I thought a career in Business Analysis and Project Management awaited me. After returning from Sydney in 2005 I fell into a career in recruitment as so many people do and I have not looked back since! Now 9 years later I have built my experience and networks across both the Auckland and Wellington markets recruiting for a wide range of roles from Technology, Telecommunications, Product Development, Finance and Technical Sales. I have built my reputation on delivering results for my clients on roles that others said were too hard and wouldn’t spend time on. I really enjoy getting to know a client’s culture as making a great placement is about matching personalities to company cultures as well as technical ability. My approach is very consultative and I always keep my clients up to speed with the progress on their role and will engage them in the process as much or as little as they would like depending on their busy schedules. Outside of work my time is taken up by my 7 year old son and Saturday morning sports, given half the chance you can find me out on the golf course or with a line in the water trying to catch the one that got away last time!

Richard Lloyd

My career has been a steady progress from hospitality, agency recruitment, telecommunications sales and internal recruitment. Having exposure to such different industries has allowed me to grow and meant that I have a very rounded background. These industries have allowed me to get a good understanding of human nature while the exposure to quite complex environments has meant I understand people’s needs and know how to identify the best talent for specific roles. I believe my greatest assets are strong people skills and an ability to communicate effectively at any level. This understanding of people and my ability to develop strong relationships, both professional and personal, allows me to get the most out of any situation. Through out my career I have specialised in end to end recruitment as well as undertaking search assignments for high level hard to fill positions. Although I have predominately focussed on the IT Arena, I have had success in different verticals due to my ability to connect with people at all levels. I have a passion for working alongside clients, really getting to know their businesses and getting results. I am a team player and have always enjoyed working within a like minded people. My high set of moral values and work ethic, mixed with a sense of humour and down to earth attitude, puts me in good stead for further professional development. I have a young family and am an avid sport lover. I enjoy keeping fit either through boxing, mixed cardio or taking the dog to Woodhill and I enjoy getting into the great outdoors as much as possible. If given the opportunity fishing would be my fulltime occupation.

Josh Halligan
Director & Principal Consultant
Prior to recruitment I have a background in IT and sales, it was the combination of these two disciplines that set me up for a successful recruitment career. Now with over 7 years NZ recruitment experience working across the Auckland and Wellington markets I feel I’ve built a strong reputation for delivery and have extensive networks that have led to partnerships with a number of New Zealand’s largest organisations. I’ve worked for recruitment agencies such as Robert Walters, Global Career Link and in 2010 had the opportunity to round off my recruitment career and explore the workings of internal recruitment by joining the Telecom recruitment team. I’ve worked on numerous high profile assignments across a range of industry sectors and specialise in dedicated search for hard to find talent or senior appointments. Although my background and expertise lies in technology recruitment I’ve successfully applied these search techniques across all job families. In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit and exploring the outdoors. I can usually be seen competing in a range of activities from running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, soccer, mountain biking, surfing, snowboarding, scuba diving, etc.

Originally from Scotland, I moved to New Zealand in my late teens and quickly settled into the Kiwi lifestyle. I gained exposure to the telecommunications industry through part time work at Visionstream while carrying out my university studies and also completed AUT’s compulsory cooperative education placement working within the build department. After graduating from AUT in 2013 with a Bachelor of Business in Human Resources and Management, I took a full time position at Visionstream as a project coordinator assisting on RBI and Proactive projects. The main motivation towards achieving a degree in Business was to open the doors into a profession where I can put my strong interpersonal skills to use and build a career in recruitment. I have been lucky to begin my career at Halo Consulting, assisting the consultants uphold a high level of service by connecting great candidates with valued clients.

I arrived in NZ in 2013 and have totally embraced the Kiwi way of life. Back in the UK I worked in agency recruitment within business support and creative. Since touching down in Auckland, I have worked across various agencies specialising in business support, customer service, creative, banking and finance. In addition, networking and social media have always played a big part in my career. Connecting exceptional talent to innovative New Zealand companies is something that inspires me every day. In particular, I am fascinated by all things IT/Tech as I feel we are constantly evolving, learning and empowering people in this area. In my free time, I am a prolific reader, writer and digital media enthusiast. You can normally find me at the beach, snorkeling or running around NZ exploring. Originally from the South Island, I started my recruitment career in Wellington in 2013, after studying towards a Bachelor of Arts at Victoria University. I have been working as a Technology and Digital Recruitment Consultant for the past two and a half years. After moving to Auckland in early 2015, the focus of my work has largely been within the Digital space. I work with a range of organisations in supporting them to grow and develop highly effective digital teams- from small to medium software development companies all the way through to large enterprises undergoing extensive digital transformation. I love that I am able to contribute to the growth and development of the New Zealand’s vibrant and ever changing technology landscape. If I’m not at Halo, you’ll find me out and about doing something food, friends or beach related!

Growing up in Auckland and finishing my schooling on the North Shore I worked in various different customer service/retail assistant jobs. I then gained an administration role at a Private Training Establishment on the North Shore where I stayed for over 5 years. As the company evolved into a Senior Secondary School I moved with the company to become PA to the CEO. Within this job I had a lot to do with organising and hosting events, supporting the management team and overall administration duties. When not in the office I am often found out with the horses, on a paddleboard or road tripping to a beach somewhere in the country!

I have recently moved back to NZ after two years in London. As a country girl from the Hawkes Bay moving to London was a massive change of lifestyle which I fully embraced. I met and worked with some amazing people and was able to travel all over Europe. Having worked in various Accounts role, my most recent role was for another Recruitment Agency where I gained knowledge of all aspects of Finance within the recruitment industry which I can now bring to Halo. Out of work you will find me spending time outside with family and friends, snowboarding, attempting to surf and of course travel or just relaxing on the deck with a cheeky wine or two.
